Mission

Mission

The mission of Space Management is to work together with the University Space Committee, the Office of the Provost, and other university stakeholders to develop and implement effective space management strategies. Through integrated planning of Rice’s infrastructure and physical assets, we support the university’s mission and long-term growth.

Since 2000, Rice University's campus has doubled in size, growing from just over three million square feet to more than six million square feet. This rapid expansion highlights the importance of effective and strategic space management. The Space Management team collaborates with the Office of the Provost to optimize how space is utilized across campus. In 2013, the Space Task Force, which was established by the Provost, released a report containing key recommendations and standards aimed at improving space efficiency at Rice.
